God is in lots of things besides words, words, words
Abraham didn’t have a Bible.
He worked his traveling sheep ranch,
and looked at stars.
And watched for embodied God
to come and visit with him under an oak tree.
Sarah figured out God’s message in laughter.
Moses watched a bush,
and took his shoes off and muttered and wondered.
Later he listened
for thunder on a mountain,
and wrote it down and gave it away.
Watch out!
Adam and Eve listened to a snake.
(Humph! We’ve had hell to pay
ever since.)
David listened to a story a prophet named Nathan told.
Then he took responsibility.
A starving widow had kitchen-trust
and God kept her flour and olive oil containers
full, full, full.
So she got to make bread for her (and her son), and lived.
Samson kept his hair long.
Jesus’ daddy had a dream, and the next thing you know
they moved to a new country!
God is in lots of things besides words, words, words.
