Dave planted these flowers on December 21, almost five months ago, on the day of his mother’s funeral. What emotionally moves us is that she suffered so terribly with mental illness over the course of her adult life, and that went into full storm after Dave’s dad died eleven years ago. A plant in my backyard. With flowers. Then seed pods. Then seeds falling out of seed pods. And the process starts all over again. Despacito. Slowly. Thank you nature, for helping us to understand that, if we just pause to look, we will see the slow process of reinvention is always at work around us. And we aren’t crazy to want reinvention.
